FREE ALARMS HINTS AND TIPS

The installing the free alarm system and other equipment from Free Alarms is only one step in ensuring that your home is adequately protected. The following hints and tips listed below will increase the levels of protection of your family and home.

Test your alarm at least once a month, the procedure for testing your alarm would be:

  • Contact Fidelity-ADT monitoring centre and inform them that you are putting your alarm on test
  • Read the Fidelity-ADT alarm manual thoroughly.
  • Consult with your service provider, Free Alarms, if you are uncertain about any of the procedures.
  • Memorise the disarm code and other procedures of disarming the alarm system.
  • Close and lock all protected doors as if you are about to leave the house and want it to be secure.
  • Run the test operation on your system. When everything is ready, go ahead and punch in the keys to activate the test mode.
  • Test each sensor. Some systems will systematically tell you which sensors to check. Go throughout your house tripping every sensor to make sure the signal to the controller is strong. Listen for the alarm when you trip a sensor
  • Re-alarm your system after the test has been completed.
  • Confirm with Fidelity-ADT that a burglary, panic, fire and medical signal was received.

Ensure exterior lighting is installed and that the exterior of the house is well lit, it is also worth considering demand lighting which is activated by a motion detector

Try to reduce any bushes or obstructions in the vicinity of your driveway as these act as good hiding places as well as temporary sleeping spots for homeless people. Dense bushes are often used as places to dispose of stolen goods for criminals on the run.

Ensure Fidelity-ADT emergency number is programmed into your telephone's speed dial and that your entire family know the number.

Maximise the use your alarm. Even if you are at home you can arm the alarm in stay mode so that the doors and windows are armed and will then detect unauthorised access.

Ensure your alarm system is armed at all times if you are not home (even if you are only going out for a few minutes)

The radio transmitter will only send burglary, panic and power failure signals, whereas should you be linked by your landline the alarm will send those signals as well as data on what zones have been activated including specific panic, fire and medical conditions.
